Winter sports enthusiasts head to Gulmarg, home to one of the highest cable car rides in the world and slopes considered among Asia’s best for skiing. Pahalgam’s meadows and Sonmarg’s glacial backdrop pull in trekkers and families wanting cooler air in peak summer. And for many Indian travelers, simply seeing the Kashmir they grew up hearing about in films and stories carries its own quiet significance.
